Abstract

Multicultural education is a response to the increasing diversity within school populations and the growing demand for equal rights and opportunities for all groups in society. It is an educational approach that embraces all students without discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, race, culture, social status, or religion. This study aims to examine the concept of multicultural education and explore its role in fostering education within multiethnic and multireligious societies. The research employs a literature review method by analyzing various sources, including books, academic journals, and scholarly articles related to multicultural education. The findings indicate that multicultural education plays a significant role in strengthening national identity in Indonesia and addressing the challenges of social and national disintegration arising from differences in ethnicity, race, culture, religion, and other forms of diversity. Furthermore, multicultural education contributes to the development of a respected, progressive, and globally recognized nation by promoting appreciation for diversity, supporting minority groups, advocating for social justice, and fostering cultural awareness. Ultimately, it helps shape individuals with strong cultural values and contributes to the creation of a harmonious and culturally enriched society.
